Building Secure, Scalable and Dynamic Web Applications using Java Servlets and Apache JServ

By Jon S.Stevens

Over the last few years, the importance of web applications has greatly increased the value of the Internet. It has become possible for people to build many different types of applications that all run from within a single application, the web browser. Example applications include e-commerce, stock trading, online banking, auctions, web portals, frequently asked question systems, and web logs. As a result, it has become increasingly important for the developers of these sites to be able to quickly and easily build these complex business applications in a scalable, secure and bug free manner.

Using 100% Pure Java technologies on the server side has helped enable developers to achieve these goals. Many of these Enterprise Level technologies are available as Open Source including...Apache JServ (Servlet Engine), Village (JDBC Wrapper), Element Construction Set (Tag Generation Library) and Turbine (Web Application Framework).
